Defensive Lineman Transfer Anterio Thompson Commits to Washington Huskies, Strengthening Trenches for 2025
Transfer from Western Michigan, Anterio Thompson, Joins Washington Huskies to Bolster Defensive Line Depth for 2025 Season
Anterio Thompson, a transfer from Western Michigan, committed to the Washington Huskies on Monday.
Thompson, the Huskies’ third commitment of the transfer portal cycle, will provide much-needed depth for the Huskies at the defensive line position next season.
This season, at Western Michigan, Thompson tallied 29 tackles and a sack in ten games for the Broncos.
On his commitment, Thompson tells SeaTown Sports that he was drawn to Washington’s “culture” and emphasized that “a strong bond . . . was definitely apparent in the [defensive] line room.”
Washington defensive line coach Jason Kaufusi played an instrumental role in Thompson’s commitment to the Huskies. Kaufusi showed Thompson how he fit into Washington’s defensive scheme.
“UW offers a perfect fit [for Thompson], providing him the opportunity to thrive both on the field and in his personal and academic growth,” says Amber Mathurin, VP of Recruiting at Thompson’s agency, NILX. “UW’s commitment to supporting their athletes in navigating branding and monetization makes it an ideal choice for Anterio as he works toward becoming a future Husky and pursuing his professional dreams in the NFL.”
The Iowa native started his collegiate career at the junior college level at Iowa Western Community College where he earned first-team all-conference and all-region honors, helping Iowa Western earn a NJCAA Division I title. In 2023, he transferred to Iowa and appeared in seven games for the Iowa Hawkeyes. There, he appeared in seven games and blocked two punts.
Thompson’s shared the following message to the Washington fanbase after his commitment:“Husky Nation, I’m excited to get [up] there and get to work!”
With Thompson’s commitment, the Huskies have landed three players through the transfer portal this season, and all three players are in the trenches. Last week, Oklahoma offensive lineman Geirean Hatchett announced he is returning to Washington after suiting up for the Sooners this past season. Kansas State offensive tackle Carver Willis also committed to the Huskies last week. Both players will provided depth and experience at a position group that struggled this season.
