Meet the New Huskies: Inside Washington's Men's Basketball Transfer Class
Huskies hit the portal hard, here's how Washington basketball is reloading under Danny Sprinkle for the 2025-26 season.
The Washington Huskies men’s basketball team will look different next season. After a disappointing beginning to the Danny Sprinkle-era on Montlake, the Huskies’ roster has experienced an overhaul this offseason. Apart from the departing players with no more remaining eligibility, Washington also lost seven players to the transfer portal when it opened this spring, with only guard Zoom Diallo and center Franck Kepnang returning next season.
The Huskies so far have added six players from the transfer portal, including JUCO-transfer Mady Traore who signed with Washington last November. Here is a rundown on the Huskies’ transfer portal class as it stands right now.
G Quimari Peterson (East Tennessee State)
6-1, 190 lbs - 19.5ppg, 4.5rpg, 3.7apg, 46.7 FG%, 42 3P%
Peterson comes to Seattle after earning Southern Conference Player of the Year honors with East Tennessee State. He led the conference both in scoring and steals per game, while ranking in the top 15 in the NCAA in total points (603), field goals made (219), and 3-point percentage (43.1). While he may not have the same numbers against superior teams in the Big Ten, he will likely be Washington’s starting point guard next season.
G Wesley Yates III (USC)
6-4, 219 lbs - 14.1ppg, 2.9rpg, 1.8apg, 47.8 FG%, 43.9 3P%
Yates, who spent his freshman year at Washington under UW’s former head coach Mike Hopkins, returns to Montlake after spending a season at USC. In Big Ten conference play, Yates averaged 17.0 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. Yates likely would have been Washington’s leading perimeter scorer last season, had he chosen to not transfer to USC. Given his scoring ability and proven offensive success in the Big Ten, you can safely slot Yates into Washington’s starting five for next season.
SF Bryson Tucker (Indiana)
6-7, 207lbs - 5.4ppg, 2.9rpg, .6apg, 37.8 FG%, 15 3P%
Tucker fills a need for the Huskies at the wing position. Last season, Tucker cracked the rotation for the Hoosiers, averaging 16 minutes per game as a freshman. His best game last season was a season-high 16-point and 6-rebound effort in a win against Minnesota. Will a new environment help Tucker breakout? Coming out of high school, Tucker was a four-star recruit per 247 Sports, and chose Indiana over several high-end programs like Duke, Kansas, and Michigan State.
F Jacob Ognacevic (Lipscomb)
6-8, 220lbs - 20ppg, 8rpg, 1.4apg, 57.5 FG%, 40.2 3P%
Ognacevic transfers to Washington after earning Atlantic Sun Player of the Year honors. The Wisconsin-native led Lipscomb to a 25-10 record, and an NCAA tournament berth. While 6-8 may be small for a four, Ognacevic was a prolific scorer, logging seven games with 28 or more points. He can score inside and out, with a decent mid-range game. I except him to start for the Huskies next season.
F/C Mady Traore (Frank Phillips College - JUCO)
7-0, 195lbs - 13.2ppg, 8.4rpg, 1.3apg, 53.4 FG%
Traore committed to Washington last November before theexodus of transfers took place this past spring. Washington will be the seven-footer’s fourth school in four years. He began his career at New Mexico State, transferred to Maryland, and spent his last season at Frank Phillips College in Texas. The Frenchmen broke out at the JUCO level, showing an ability to score while also demonstrating shot-blocking and rebounding ability this past season.
C Lathan Sommerville (Rutgers)
6-10, 260 lbs - 8.2ppg, 4.1rpg, 50.3 FG%
As a freshman at Rutgers, Sommerville averaged over 20 minutes a game and ranked third on the team in points per game (8.2), behind projected NBA lottery picks Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey. He started 15 games and played in 32 games last season. He is a key piece for Sprinkle as he will provide the Huskies with needed Big-Ten experience in the low post.
